Changing Machine Parameter Information from the Front Keypad

On some (newer) versions of Autocon/DynaPath controls, it is possible to change machine parameter from the front panel keypad. This parameter information is stored on an electronic chip, or PROM. Older versions of controls contain read-only PROMs, which do not allow data to be changed from the front panel keypad. Newer versions of controls have read/write PROMs which do allow the data to be changed from the front panel keypad.

Machine Parameter Information

To tailor the control to your machine, you may enter data into the parameter PROM.

Before continuing, be sure to save any programs, tool data, and setup mode settings as this data is erased when PROM data is viewed or changed. If your control is a Delta 20M with firmware P5030 or PA5030 or later, or a Delta 10M with firmware P5518 or PA5518 or later, you may disregard this caution as no data is erased during this operation in later controls. The start-up screen displays your firmware revision number.

Keyboard Entry Method

To changed parameter information, you must have access to the electrical enclosure in which the DynaPath control is mounted. On most N/C Systems machines, this is the right side enclosure.

On most machines, the enclosure may be opened only with the power to the machine switched off. So make sure the power is off and then open the enclosure.

In order to change parameters, the power to the control must be on. So, while leaving the enclosure door open, power the machine up— but leave the Emergency Stop button pushed in.

Next, locate the DynaPath control chassis in the enclosure. It will be covered with a silver cover panel that has silk-screen information on it and has several cutouts allowing access to the inside.

Locate the cutout labeled PARAM INIT (parameter initialization). If there is a push button visible through the cutout, insert a plastic pen (or other non-conductive object) through the cutout to press the button. If there is a toggle switch visible through the cutout, flip the switch.

This will cause a START UP – POWER FAIL display to appear on the control screen. Disregard the PRESS MODE SELECT prompt, and instead press the P key. The EEPROM PROGRAMMING display will appear.

Address Select and Data Entry

The display will show a PROM address (or parameter number) and a data value. To move to a specific address, key in the letter A, then the address, then ENTER. If you make an error before pressing ENTER, you may press CLEAR and re-enter the address.

Once selected, the address and its stored data are shown. To change the data, key in the letter D, then the data, then ENTER. Data may be entered in the range of 00 – FF per address.

Saving New Entries

Once entries are complete, turn the power OFF. Upon restarting the machine, the new parameter values should be enabled.
